Richard Cook
Richard is fourth generation Texan and a native Houstonian. As a Certified Professional Tour Guide and Past President of the Professional Tour Guide Association of Houston, he is currently a Director At Large of the PTGAH. He operates a tour business, TexanaTours, in Houston and specializes in a basic discovery tour of Houston, revealing both old and modern aspects of the city. Richard graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Political Science. Considered by many as a true expert on Texas History, his passion for Texas and Texas History goes beyond the academic. Richard can relate the “Texas Mystique” to all, explaining its origin, popularity and most of all, how it is changing with today’s political climate. As a well known Texas History aficionado who specializes in Texas history tours, He can take you to all important Texas history sites and show you right where it happened. He also specializes in Texas oil history. He is one of the few tour guides that can take you into the oil field and show the spots of the discovery wells that made Texas the oil center of the universe. Richard was recently featured at the David Dike Fine Art Gallery's "An Auction of Texas Art" in Dallas. As a guest speaker, Richard's presentation "SpindleTop & Patillo Higgins: For the want of a good Brick" gave an in-depth glimpse into the history of Texas Oil. Richard has also been featured in several travel articles on Houston. Recently Richard was featured in the article, " Texas Rising, a Tale of Two Cities, Houston and Galveston, " in the City Style and Living Magazine Canada International Edition, Winter 2009-2010 magazine. In this article, Richard was the featured tour guide for Houston. Richard also operates a Texas History Art and Gift business known as TexanaStudios in Spring, Texas.
